So my plan was to do some street photography on the streets of New Delhi, India. One fine day I woke up with a thought of first going to Sai Baba’s (The God I worship) temple on Lodi Road, Delhi and then from there to the famous Khan Market just a kilometer from the temple for some street photography. Khan Market is every foodie and shopper's dream come true. A hub of top brands, designer boutiques and some top-notch restaurants.
I find street photography the most alluring because of the challenges it post. The unpredictability of the next shot, the next moment and the umpteen subjects propel me to explore my creativity and think outside the box.
There you go, I was actually at Khan market and started clicking pictures focusing on people and their behavior in public.
Suddenly these boys; somewhere around 10-14 years of age came to me and literally begged me to buy pens from them. It was heartbreaking to see them and out of pity I ended up buying whatever they were selling. Their faces lit up with joy… and they literally started dancing on the street and asked me to take their pictures.
After an hour I had the most amazing lunch at the famous restaurant ‘Khan Chacha’…and could barely walk after that since my tummy was so full. While walking out of the restaurant, I was counting my blessings that I have this luxury of eating anything at any point of time…and again I bumped into these four boys who were walking bare feet on the street and were selling pens to the people.
Don't know what clicked in my head, but something inside pushed me and I asked these boys “Are you hungry”. They said “Oooh yess we are and we want to eat chicken rolls from “Rule the Rolls” restaurant". There you go…I took them (4 boys) to the restaurant and ordered food for them. They were all happy, chirpy and making all kind of noises they possibly could, anxiously waiting for their food and drinks. Just wanted you guys to see this video/pictures while they were eating at the restaurant. It felt so amazing to see them gobble and relish their food.
The only point I want to put across from this is that, God presents us with many such opportunities when we can do our little bit for such kids. It is up to us to not ignore these opportunities, rather act on them and feed these kids a couple of square meals. If we all do our little bit, I am sure we can create a world where no child goes to bed hungry.
The 4 Boys
The Entire Gang of Friends
Now when I think back, this thought in me must be created by ‘Sai Baba’ (The God I worship) when I went to the temple in the morning. Om Sai Ram.
